- An O.S which controls and manages both Hardware devices and application software in a single computer is called as Desktop O.S

- An O.S which control and manages both Hardware devices and application software in all computer in that network is called as Network O.S
- Example: Windows NT/ 2000 / 2003 / UNIX / LINUX / Novell Netware ..etc
