What is a Partition in a HDD?
- Assigning logical names of (s) for HDD to access (Read/ Write) data in HDD is called as Partition.
- Logical names of HDD start from C: to Z:
Types of Partition in HDD:
1. Primary DOS Partition:
- The first partition which is used for starting Operating system (O.S).
- Generally Drive Letter for Primary DOS Partition is "C:"
2. Extended DOS Partition:
- Extend means increase
- If you want to create more than one partition in HDD, than create Extended Partition.
Logical DOS Drive:
- Diving extended DOS partition into small logical partitions called as Logical DOS Drives.
3. Non-Dos Partition:
- Non-DOS means which O.Ss not belong to Microsoft Family (Ex: Unix / Linux / Novell Netware)
- If you want to install ( UNIX / LINUX O.S ) other than Microsoft Family O.S , than create Non-DOS Partition.
